For what it's worth I would rather you not create your own chat client. There are dozens of them out there and there is no need to re-invent the wheel. I much prefer solid integration options. You do somewhat already provide the option through Desktop Central integration. This almost caused a problem in my organization as we are very cautious regarding anything that might be considered "Correspondence" because it is possible that it would be demanded by a lawyer in a lawsuit. Chat seems like a simple thing, but between legal considerations, encryption and network issues it's surprisingly tricky.
